1938(7th June) Brighton & Hove cancelled cover endorsed "Air mail" & addressed to Adelaide but franked 1½d (pre-empting the All-up 1½d rate which was to be introduced to Australia the following month). Boxed "T" & "T 2/3" in blue crayon with Australian 1d & 2d x 13 Postage Dues on reverse. Carried on Imperial Airways flight IE660 which en route from Karachi to Singapore the on the "Ceres", was caught in heavy monsoon rain & made a forced landing in Lake Dugari (Central India). The aircraft was unable to continue being stuck in soft mud in the shallow lake thus the mail was carried by bullock cart for 32kms & by car for a further 15kms to join the railway at Lake Gwalior where the relief aircraft "Capella" was waiting on the day of the incident. Adelaide 24 JNE "Air Mail Saves Time" slogan cancel. The letter is addressed to Mrs Richard Tauber, wife of the great singer on the SS Orantes. A certain irony in the slogan postmark! Ex Perry
