1931 (21st Sept) Sydney to Melbourne intermediate leg of Kingsford Smiths Australia to England attempted record breaking flight in the "Southern Cross Minor". He arrived in London on 7th Oct from Rome, missing out on the record as he had been arrested in Turkey for 3 days after landing there illegally. 2d KGV tied by Kingsford Smiths autograph above address (Crome) with ½d KGV bottom left tied by Newtown NSW cds. Endorsed on reverse & signed by Crome when presented to the "Tom Frommer Collection" in 1987. A lovely item with only 10 flown. AAMC 215a, Cat. $2,500 (plate 2)
