1932 (2nd Jan) Darwin to Soerabaya Hans Bertram cover flown at the start of his ill-fated return flight to Germany. The plane, a Junkers W33 seaplane, crashed at Soerabaya on take-off. Large env with 3d Airmail tied by Darwin NT cds plus Dutch East Indies strip of 5 10¢ & pair of 30¢ & 15c defin all tied by Soerabaya cds's. Cover is addressed to London with smoke &/or water damage around stamps & top of env. Only 5 flown. AAMC 241 Cat. $1200
