1938 (19th Apr) Monaco to Sydney where redirected with a remarkable franking totalling 15f50 to incl UPU 1f75 plus airmail surcharge of 4f50 per 5gms x 3 (overpaid 25c) consisting of 2f50 on 2f surcharged Postage Due, 5f green Prince Albert & 3f lilac & red/yellow x 2 pictorial. Carried on Imperial Airways "Challenger", flight IE646 which was caught in a storm leaving Rome & on 21st Apr was struck by lightning. This necessitated a return for repairs to damage with the service departing the following day. Cannes cinderella on reverse tied by Sydney 2 MAY 1938 arrival/s & Thomas Cook receiving datestamp for same date. Roughly opened with some wear/staining but seldom encountered convergence of rare franking & interrupted mail. Ex Perry
