1930 (9th Jan) Tananarive, Madagascar to Paris crash cover. The Farman 197 left Port Franqui in the Belgian Congo on 13th Jan 1930 but crashed in dense forest along the river Kasai killing all crew. The wreckage was found 2 months later on 13th March including the mail however the crew of Roux, Caillol & Dodemont had been eaten by cannibals! This cover was Regd Tananarive with 13f50 mixed franking tied by Tananarive cds's with matching black & red Regd label and red PTT Madagascar Air Mail etiquette. "RAID MADAGASCAR FRANCE ACCIDENT DU 13 JANVIER 1930" cachet applied on reverse. Incls original correspondence. As expected in worn & water stained cond. A scarce survivor.
