1969 (4th Aug) Sydney Mirror newspaper with the heading "Smithy is Missing - Lady Southern Cross Lost". Reprint of the 1935 (9th Nov) Newspaper outer cover framed with b&w photo of Kingsford Smith in formal suit next to the aircraft. Article was filed from Singapore with sub-heading, "Feared forced down by violent storms over Bay of Bengal" & "Last seen at three o'clock yesterday morning by Mr CJ Melrose, also attempting a record flight from London to Australia." Eighteen months following his disappearance, Burmese fishermen found an undercarriage leg & wheel with its tyre still inflated which had been washed ashore at Aye Island in the Gulf of Martaban off the southeast coastline of Burma. Lockheed confirmed the undercarriage leg to be from the Lady Southern Cross. Both items framed.
