PNG Postmark study with notes & ASM 1954 articles on the subject. Incls examples from German New Guinea, Mandated Territory period, Australian stamps used in PNG & later independence cds types. Mainly arranged by place name & showing various cancel types for each noting place name changes e.g. Herbertshohe to Kokopo & Gasmata to Kandrian. No Higaturu strike is present (village was destroyed in Mt Lamington eruption) but Relief No.3 on Australian piece for 31 AUG 1951 was used at nearby Popondetta before cancel showing place name replaced it. Some covers incl 1941 Rabaul cancelled Wau Bulolo Goldfields Airmail ½d to 3d to Mt lawley WA & 1952 Samarai regd cover to Port Moresby bearing Australian stamps with Samarai 23 JE 52 cds (PNG stamps were first issued on 30 October). Many elusive PO's are represented incl Buka Passage (near Sohana), Morobe, Kukipi, Bainings (on 1952 airmail cover to WA), Rigo & Kairuku. The name change from Gasmata to Kandrian referred to earlier is interestingly depicted on an Airmail cover dated 25 MY 52 to WA with registered label inscribed with the earlier name & Australian KGVI stamps tied by the new name. Two "relief" usages on cover complete the collection. A highly recommended lot. (177 pieces + 16 cover)
