1937 (4th Dec) Imperial Airways Australia to England flight in flying boat "Cygnus". Crashed at Brindisi with 3 dead. Although the mails were heavy with 100 bags, only about 120 Australian letters were recovered from the sea. These 2 covers have different violet cachets. The first is a 4 line boxed "DAMAGED BY SEA WATER IN AIRPLANE ACCIDENT" & the other a single line boxed "DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER". Both without stamps. AAMC 782a Cat. $300+ (2)
