1936 (28th Sept) Schlesinger Air Race cover carried "per S. S. Halse", one of the South African entrants in the race (who led the field until crashing his Percival Mew Gull in a forced landing due to poor visibility near Salisbury). "England - South Africa Air Race September 1936" cachet in green. Mailed back to UK from Salisbury franked with GB ½d tied by Portsmouth cds on departure with Southern Rhodesia 1d's tied by Salisbury cds's of 7th & 12th October. Signed by Captain Halse. With only 24 pieces of mail carried & not all of which were signed this is a scarce crash cover in VG cond.
