1932 (13th June) Sydney to Bourke to Sydney (Quaker's Hill) flown cover. Signed by LJR Jones, the designer of the first Australian designed & built plane. Named "Wonga" VH-ULZ, it was first flown on the 5th June from Quakers Hill to Bourke. Then whilst returning on this flight on the 13th June, its engine failed & it made a forced landing. Three days later after repairs & whilst on a test flight in preparation for a flight to NZ, it crashed killing the pilot Ray Mitchell & a passenger Arthur Barnes. The cover is also signed by Dorothy Mitchell, the sister of the pilot. Addressed to Ernest A Crome with 1d KGV "cancelled" by pilot's signature. 10 flown. Exc cond. AAMC 269a Cat. $600
