Switzerland 1897 5ยข pre-stamped newspaper wrapper with Geneva 10.11.97 cds & addressed to Perth overstruck in violet with two line "Damaged through stranding of "Oratava"" & accompanied by photocopied "Australasian Wreck Mail" review from "Australasian Stamps October 1997" explaining that on February 23 1897 the Orient Steamer "Oratava" became stranded in the Red Sea on a voyage from London to Sydney. The passengers and mail were trans-shipped and on arrival in Perth, mail had a cachet applied (the first of its kind in Australia). The cachet involved a misspelling of the ships' name...". Please note the Roman II in the cds, which should be read as "October 2 97". Rare to find a newspaper wrapper as a wreck recovery item.
