1895 Coolgardie Cycle Express cover with 2/6d blue bicycle stamp tied by "Per COOLGARDIE CYCLE EXPRESS CO. HUNT STREET" cachet in violet. Originally from Albany with 2d grey swan cancelled by double strike of Albany 3 NO 1895 duplex & addressed to "Mr Lorimer, Koorarawayle, Coolgardie, Western Australia". "UNCLAIMED" one line h/s on front with Coolgardie 6 NO 95 cds & a complete strike of the "JAMES A. HEALEY SHAREBROKER, MINING & GENERAL COMMISSION AGENT COOLGARDIE CYCLE EXPRESS CO. HUNT STREET, COOLGARDIE" oval cachet in mauve on reverse. Env flap reads "Pacific Steam Navigation Company, Orient Line of Royal Mail Steamer". Koorarawayle was a railway construction settlement 65km east of the Southern Cross PO. It opened on 19th Sept 1895 & closed in 1896. This is one of only 12 recorded covers with the 2/6d value on cover. A lovely cover in good cond. & an important item in early WA postal history. (see front cover)
