1938 Calpurnia (27th Nov) Empire Airways Flying Boat Calpurnia Crash in Iraq on route to Perth from London. This badly water damaged Registered cover addressed to West Perth still has the original contents from EJ Jansen, a London stamp dealer. It is unusual in that the type A label has been affixed over the type B label (either of these were attached to all affected mail from FW Arnold Deputy Director, Posts & Telegraphs, Perth). Posted in Croyden, the Registered label is still present with the original stamps. It appears the Registered items did not fare any better than the ordinary mail even though they were carried in heavy duty secured bags!
