Dear Collector
Welcome to our only sale for 2025 due to business trips and two holidays with Christine which we have been looking forward to for a couple of years now. The first to New Zealand to see some of her family and then 3 weeks in Japan including the F1 grand prix before I headed to the UK where I had a stand at the Birmingham show and attended some local auctions. It was great to meet some of our clients and the Stanley Gibbons reunion in London literally took me back 35 years!
Now back to the reality of a 2900 lot auction and this sale appearing in 2 catalogues due to its size. The first section is for coins, banknotes and PNC's plus medallion covers, the latter two categories growing with each auction. I am thrilled to see the enthusiasm and knowledge of these collectors and their dedication in researching, scouting and actively collecting these stamp and coin covers. Selected PNC's now sell frequently at $1000+ and have become sought after not just nationally but globally too. Please note, this catalogue is by request only so please email me at stampdealer@iinet.net.au should you wish a copy prior to auction day. Alternatively, as always, please visit the website, www.acestampauctions.com for a full PDF catalogue plus over 2000 images.
Following part one Saturday morning, we resume with the ever popular box lots (383-433) before 545 World and Australian collections (434-978) including a superb Great Britain QV lot catalogued £39,000 with issues between SG1 and SG 5 and a conservative $8000 reserve (Lot 484). Going from one 1840 extreme to the 2020's extreme, we have massive Australian overprinted Miniature Sheet and Booklet collections from all the major shows and numerous smaller events, indeed the most thorough collections we have seen. With face values alone of $5700+ and $5300+ respectively, these have plenty of potential for the reseller or Ebay or even these routes after a collector has filled their gaps! (Lots 862 & 893) The vendors PNC collection numbering 316 covers with a $14,000 retail and a reserve of $2500 is also worthy of consideration (lot 897) as too are the 130+ "Impressions" products in lot 849 that have a current retail exceeding $20,000 with a reserve of $4000.
Meanwhile, the West Australian section on Sunday morning is our best ever thanks to the material of the late Trevor Spencer, Chris Sykes and Brian Pope plus Milton Hook and Peter Goodall. The family of Trevor have requested we initially offer his two medal winning exhibits as single lots to allow them not to be split up but instead, possibly be built on by another collector to continue their journey to gold. Therefore, please study the 80 page, 5 frame exhibit titled "The Postal Date Stamps of Perth GPO 1854 to 1912" (lot 1169) and the Large Vermeil winning "Swans of De La Rue" 1871-1912" collections (lot 1170) carefully as their current reserves represent an amazing opportunity.
The back cover of this catalogue reveals a scarce trio with the set of three trial printings of the Papua New Guinea 1962 5/- Patrol issue in complete sheets of 60 from both the first and second London trial printings and then the Melbourne Australian Note Printing Branch printing. This is the first time these have been offered in a single auction and would be an outstanding basis for an award winning exhibit! (lots 2599-2601)
Highlights continue throughout the catalogue with too many to mention here however, the colour plates provide some clues including the 1930 Lord Howe Island Sturt 1½d scarlet with "2d Paid PM LHI" in manuscript across each stamp in a MVLH block of 4 (lot 2162), the £1 grey, 3rd wmk, perfined small "OS", ex Arthur Grey (lot 2128), a 1919 England to Australia Ross & Keith Smith flown flight cover originating in Iraq and numbered "100" in Tom Frommer's book (lot 982) plus Great Britain 1843 1d red-brown QV imperf right marginal mint block of 12 lettered "HI-JL" in a fine deep shade with full sheet margin & marginal inscription (lot 2621) and an 1840 1d black, Plate 8 joined vertical strip of 8 on South Petherton, Somerset addressed entire cancelled by multiple strikes of the red Maltese Cross - stunning! (lot 2616)
Thanks as always to the Ace team including John McPhee and Trevor Lacy who assisted in describing for this sale in record time and the scanning of over 2000 lots for the website by Christine before she left on another 3 week holiday, this time to the "The Stans"!
Our next auction, Sale 37, is planned for the 9th and 10th May 2026 and we are currently accepting consignments so please contact me to discuss while the 2026 Perth Stamp & Coin Show will be held from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th March with 21 dealers already confirmed to attend plus the Perth Mint.
In closing, and I know it's only October, but we wanted to wish everyone the very best for the Christmas and the New Year and thank you all for your continued support of Ace Stamp Auctions.
