1935-1946 USA Rocket Mail vignettes. (1) First American Mail Rocket Flight Sept 22 1935 with 3 imperf sheetlets of 4 in slate violet plus water damaged trial in dark violet with green fingerprint on gum with penned 177/80 position numbers plus similar on singles 165/68 (one thinned) & corner singles in green & dark brown on card. This design showing less "window" dots on background buildings. Also single on piece with triangular cachet. (2) For the same event but different design with imperf corner singles numbered 221-224 on gum showing rocket in flight in carmine-lake inscribed as for (1) above. (3) imperf sheetlets of 4 x 3 of first design but in carmine. (4) Imperforate blocks as for (1) & (3) above but ovptd "V-2 Las Cruces, N.M. 1946" on both colours plus same ovpt but with sans serif lettering & date altered to 1947. Note attached refers to the background of Dr Wernher von Braun & his post war life in US as head of the rocket research team. He had developed the V-2 rocket during WWII in Germany hence the ovpt mentioned above. Scarce group. Ex Frommer.
